Answers

1. I cannot travel to the library. Is there anyway I can still borrow books?

Yes. You need to do this through your local peripatetic teacher of the deaf. He/she can borrow a box of books from the library and then loan them to you through a home visit. You can see a list of the items we have in stock on our web site.

2. I would like to visit the library but my partner and I both work. Is there any way we can visit outside normal working hours?

Yes. You can do this by special arrangement by telephoning the library on 020 8673 7564. Look out also for news of special opening times held on a termly basis . We will be opening on a Saturday morning and weekday evening once each term.

3. Is there a mailing list where I can get updates on the library and receive its termly newsletter?

Yes. Telephone 020 8673 7564 and we will put you on our " Friends of ESPP Library " mailing list.

4. My grandaughter is deaf. Are there any items in the library which would be relevant to us?

Yes. Many of the books we have are targeted not just at parents but at the whole family - including grandparents, brothers and sisters.

5. Are there any books featuring deaf children?

There are some very good books that do this. We have most of the books available.

6. Where can I get hold of story books to read with my child in my first language which is not English?

We have a collection of story books in other languages. We also have details of a bookshop in East London which may be of interest for you.

7. I would like to use the Internet in the library but don't know how to. Is there anyone who can help me?

Yes. Telephone us before you visit and we will make sure someone is available to help.

8. I am a professional working with families of deaf children. I would like to bring a group of parents to the library to do a session on information. Can I do this?

We welcome this. Telephone us in advance and you can book out the room. We have facilities for drinks etc. and depending on when you visit another room might be available to use as well. The room's capacity is 6-8 people.

9. We are a teacher of the deaf, Audiological Scientist and Speech and Language therapist working with families of deaf children. Can we use the library?

Yes. It is good to come down as a team. Professionals pay a small subscription. This enables us to maintain the library. You may want to consider using the library for small group staff development work.
